It doesn’t matter what event you’re planning, whether it’s a wedding, a prom, a school dance, or a business function. You want to have a great DJ. So what makes a great DJ? There are several things that makes a great DJ, and they’re all important.

What Makes a Great DJ

Passion

A great DJ must be passionate about their work. And it will show. They will be up there spinning tunes and having a blast! You have to love what you do. And when you do, people will respond in tune!

Adaptability

If there’s anything that changes as much as technology, it’s music. So not only do DJ’s have to be able to adapt to be great, but they have to be willing to be diverse in their music choices. Not everybody is going to like every music style that is played, so the music selection must be varied. A DJ’s style has to be able to reflect the ever changing music world around us.

Keeping Ahead of the Times

A DJ who will be able to stay ahead of the game. This means both in terms of music trends that are coming up, and keeping up with the latest technology. Of course the music which is played at a wedding will be tailored differently than that which is played at a high school prom, but there are still similarities at both, so it’s important to stay on top of the latest hits.

Reading the Crowd

This is one of the most important things that makes a great DJ. If a DJ can’t read a crowd, get them up onto the dance floor, then there’s a problem. DJ’s should always be on the lookout for cues. Whether the audience is dancing, nodding their heads, tapping their feet.

Be Friendly

A great DJ is friendly with the audience. Make them love you! And not just your audience, everyone!
